PSHE
PSHE – Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education
Equipping children and young people for life, relationships and independence
Health and Wellbeing
Supporting the body and mind
This area is often a top priority in alternative provision, where young people may face medical, emotional or mental health challenges. Our aim is to help them feel safer in their bodies and more in control of their emotions.
- Mental health and emotional regulation -recognising feelings, understanding triggers and building practical strategies for managing them
- Physical health – sleep, nutrition, exercise and understanding how the body works
- Substance awareness – honest, age-appropriate information about alcohol, drugs and vaping
- Basic first aid – practical skills for responding calmly in an emergency
Relationships
Promoting respect, boundaries and personal safety
Trust, mutual respect and clear boundaries sit at the centre of this work. Learners are encouraged to recognise their rights, manage peer relationships and identify bullying, discrimination or unsafe behaviour.
- Healthy relationships – understanding friendships, positive social skills and how to recognise controlling or unsafe behaviour
- Anti-bullying and inclusion – addressing bullying, discrimination and harmful language while celebrating diversity and protected characteristics
Living in the Wider World
We help children and young people build the tools they need to live with confidence beyond school. Whether they are moving on to college, training or independent living, this part of our offer is about helping them navigate the adult world.
Financial Literacy
Practical skills in budgeting, saving and understanding risks like scams or online fraud.
Careers and Post-16 Preparation
Support with vocational choices, work experience, CVs and exploring further education or training options. This work runs alongside our careers and vocational programme.
Personal Safety
Learning how to assess risk and stay safe in everyday life, including online, on the road or near public transport
Tailoring PSHE to each young person
PSHE at Stable Futures is never one size fits all. Every young person brings their own story, and we aim to meet them with curiosity and care.
Our team adapts pace, content and delivery to suit the individual. For some, that means working through a topic in short sessions alongside practical activity. For others, it means returning to the same theme several times as confidence grows. Progress is recorded and shared with schools, families and placing authorities so everyone can see the difference being made. You can read more about the outcomes we achieve on our impact page.

Accreditation Available
Learners can work towards AQA Unit Award Scheme certificates in PSHE topics, giving them formal recognition for what they have achieved.
The Unit Award Scheme suits young people in alternative provision particularly well. Each unit is short, achievement is recorded as soon as the criteria are met, and there is no exam. That means learners who have struggled with traditional assessment can still leave with something tangible to show for their work.
Units are selected to match each young person’s interests and next steps, covering areas such as personal safety, healthy relationships, money management and preparing for work. Certificates build into a portfolio that supports transition to college, training or employment.
We would love to hear from you
Stable Futures offers an environment where young people can grow, thrive and reconnect with learning. Whether you are making a referral or simply want to find out more, we would love to hear from you.
